Alameda grows innovation and a scrappy small business, on The Point. Beulah’s Bean Truck, which recently was approved for a permit to serve in the city of Alameda, was built on the old base with the help and resources of many Alameda businesses.

Owners, Candace Workman and Vincent Fernandez dreamed of starting a small coffee truck, to serve in locations where good coffee is hard to find. Both were tired of stopping to pick up coffee on the way to weekend events like the farmers markets, flea markets and the dog park.

Mobile coffee was the answer and after two years of building their own mobile café they are ready to serve premium coffee drinks.

Beulah’s Bean truck was purchased as an empty shell of an old ice cream truck.
After meeting with the traditional taco truck builders, they decided to build it
themselves.

Both were working at full time jobs, but with great rent at the perfect work location on Alameda Point, they were able to build it on weekends.

The truck was painted by ABS bus services and the graphics were printed and installed by GG Graphics, businesses also on the base. The extensive screw department at Pagano's was a lifesaver, as well as Svendson’s and West Marine boat supply stores.

Additionally Beulah’s uses a commercial kitchen operated by Alameda Point
Collaborative, where the pair bakes pastries and organic dog cookies, to serve on the truck.

Beulah’s Bean Truck, named after the owners' curmudgeonly French bulldog, was just awarded an encroachment permit for a prime location on 8th Street, next to Washington Park.

Look for a bright orange truck and occasionally Beulah, handing out fresh hot coffee drinks and crunchy organic dog treats.

The truck is open Mondays and Friday mornings 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. or 12 noon.
