We emphasize local produce and natural ingredients. Our produce comes from . The bread is from . We get our baked goods from . And we roast our own meats and our roasted chicken has been very well received. Our soups are made from scratch with homemade stock. We also have different pasta specials every day.

For drinks, we offer sodas that are sweetened with sugar cane. We have coffee, brewed to order, from Roast Coffee Co. Once we get our liquor license, we will offer wines.

The location is so close to Alameda High. Are you gearing your menu toward the student market? Yes, but they are not the only ones we want to serve. There are a lot of working adults located nearby, too. We have sandwiches, soup, fruit, fresh salads, drinks and snacks ready to go.

While we don’t have a student special planned, the price range for our grab-and-go items is under $4. We are also aware that when you have a family of five, like we do, eating out can get very expensive so most of our sit-down menu entrees cost under $10.

Why did you name your restaurant Café Q? Because of our quest for Quality in food and drink. We’ve lived in Alameda for 36 years and said that if we ever opened a restaurant it would have the kind of food we used to have to drive off the Island to eat.

Cafe Q is located at 2302 Encinal Avenue. Hours are Monday-Thursday, 7 a.m. - 9 p.m.; Friday, 7 a.m. - 10 p.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m. - 10 p.m.; and Sunday, 8 a.m. - 9 p.m.
