Alameda Little League: Game Reports through April 10

So many teams, so many players, so cold at Rittler Park.

With 930 players and 67 teams, Alameda Little League is an Alameda institution. When the season kicked off on March 12, Alameda Patch contributor Jesse Sternburg . Below are the game reports, submitted by parents and coaches, through April 10

T-Ball Divison

West Wind A’s vs. Monkey Bars Cardinals: Pierce Lapachet hit a grand slam, while Mick Goddard knocked a base hit to right-center for the A’s in their game versus the Cardinals on April 10. A’s pitcher Angus Olaes fielded a ground ball and fired it off to Hudson Taylor at first base.   For the Cardinals, second baseman Jonathan Tai and first baseman Colby Okazaki had two great stops.  Okazaki also hit a line drive over the pitcher’s head.

Farm Division

Blue Dot Café & Coffee Bar Indians vs. Event Magic Marlins: On April 10, the Indians began with singles by Cooper Brotze and Jack Becker.  The Marlins played strong defense with put outs at first by Scottie Rapposelli and Sal Guillen.  For the Indians Reeth Guha excelled at both offense and defense by hitting a single and making several outs as pitcher.  The Marlins finished with a base hit by Aaron Norboe and a home run by John Marshall.

Little Mendelson Dodgers vs. Stem to Stern Boating Services: The Farm League Stem to Stern Boating Service Twins hosted the Littler Mendelson Dodgers on Sunday, April 10. There was some great baseball played Sunday with both teams showing they came ready!   Ricky Soderlund of the Twins and Zachary Hayward of the Dodgers each had big hits to the outfield.  The kids also played phenomenally on defense.  With the bases loaded, Evan Green of the Dodgers leapt from his catching position to grab the ball and make a force out at the plate.  The Twins defenders were ready all day, recoding many outs at first.  Jake Myers made some nifty plays coming off the mound.

Littler Mendelson Dodgers, Mahoney Walker Insurance Agency Diamondbacks: The 2011 Farm Ball Season started off with a bang on April 3 as the Littler Mendelson Dodgers took on the Mahoney Walker Insurance Agency Diamondbacks.  Leading off the year, Marco Mora came in ready to play, lacing a single into right field.  Owen DeCourcy nearly took out the pitcher with a shot up the middle and Lucas Holley got into the action with a shot later that inning to the right side.  There was some great defense played by sides.  Miles Taylor made a nifty play on a pop-up behind the dish, and  Lee John Majerus made some impressive early plays at shortstop.  The Diamondbacks also looked like they were in mid-season form with Firestone blasting a shot to right field.  Cavanaugh also made several key defensive plays, including a great put out at second.

Division A

El Caballo Wraps' Rattlers 15, Encinal Market Blue Claws 14: For the Rattlers, Ben Ratto caught a fly ball to 2nd base on April 10. Alex Delao and Shamil Youngblood made two outs. Leo Miranda, Alex Delao and Aaron Garcia hit doubles.

For the Blue Claws, Zach Hester to Matthew Becker to Emmitt Phinney for a double play. Dylan Williams caught a fly ball.

Wiley Price & Radulovich, LLP’s Raptors 2 and McGee's Bar & Grill’s Lugnuts  16: Lugnuts’ Justin Wong made a double play in the 1st on April 9th against the Raptors.  Raptor’s pitcher Becca Lagerwey stopped a pop fly in the 2nd. Raptors’ Vido Ramos and Ian Ramos showed defense in the 3rd. Raptor’s Johnny Nieters hit to the left field, was stopped by Lugnuts’ short top Joey Green. Lugnuts scored in the 4th inning with runs by Adam Dean, Aiden Dudley, Jaydon Taylor, Luke McCormick and Kory Choy.

McGee’s Bar & Grill Lugnuts  15, Frutti Yogi Muckdogs 6: Justin Wong went 5 for 5 while Tanner Roizen and Luke McCormick went 4 for 4 to lead the Lugnuts on April 8.   Jaden Taylor and Hunter Beals made several key plays.  For the Muckdogs, Dima Gilchrist hit a triple and a double while Pete Celaya added a double and a single.  Ben Villanueva and Caimin Mackay made some nice plays in the field. 

The UPS Store Owlz 11, Alameda Open House Volcanoes 6: For the Owlz, Paul Ngyen, Andrew Russo, Landon Marsh, Gabe Rubio, & Derek Balaian all got base hits, driving in 2 runs. 

At the top of the second inning, Daylan Tanner lead off home-run, over the fence.

For the Volcanoes, Marcus Marsh recorded 3 RBIs while Declan Howard recorded 2 RBIs. Elijah and Roman Seabock contributed solidly on defense.

El Caballo Wrap Rattlers 12, Nielsen Electric Sand Gnats 5: On Thursday, April 7, 2011, the El Caballo Wrap Rattler's were led by the defensive efforts of 2nd baseman Felix Garcia and Charlie Weiler at 1st. Their offense was powered by eight different players producing RBIs led by Shamil Youngblood 2-2 with 3 RBIs and Aaron Garcia 3-3 2 RBIs. Sam Meyer got his first RBI of the season. The Rattlers batting average was 0.633/Slugging % 0.933 for the game.

The Nielsen Electric Sand Gnats rallied in the third inning, scoring four runs, with Sam Bilstein driving in two of those runs.  Stephanie Guitierrez recorded her third hit of the season.  Justin Wong and Alex Camarena made solid defensive plays. 

Frutti Yogi Muckdogs 17, El Caballo Wrap Rattlers 16: Leo Miranda and Ben Ratto led the Rattlers with 3 RBIs batting 3-3 while Shamil Youngblood and Devon Casias also had three hits and 2 RBIs each Sunday Mar. 13. Defensive efforts by Charlie Weiler and Michael Proffitt at first base kept the game close until the 6th inning. For the Muckdogs, Pete Celaya led the Muckdogs with a key double play to Ranen Chang in the bottom of the sixth inning while hitting two doubles and a single for his team.  Dima Gilchrist, Jacob Price, and Jerick Griego also hit two doubles each for the Muckdogs.

Frutti Yogi Muckdogs 12, Nielsen Electric Sand Gnats 11: Sebastian Hurtubic and Jacob Price led the Muckdogs in the field and at the plate as the Muckdogs came from behind to win on April 3.  Dima Gilchrist went 4 for 4 and scored 3 runs for the dogs while Ranen Chang and Kellen Sellars made timely plays in the field.  The Sand Gnats were led by Adam Hoepker, Ethan Tien, and Olivia Featherstone at the plate while Alex Camarena and Duncan Wilde had the hot gloves.

Nelson Electric Sand Gnats 3, AlamedaOpenHouse.com Volcanoes  1:
For the Sand Gnats, Adam Hoepker and Jack Harris each went 3 for 3, Daniel Choi hit a stand up triple, and Ethan and Kaitlyn Tien made three plays in a row for outs in the final inning to seal the victory.

For the Volcanoes, Declan Howard went 1 for 2 putting the ball in play twice and recorded an assist in the forth inning while playing short stop. Jeffery Hodge batted 2 for 2. Jake Yu executed a head's up play tracking down a well hit ball into left field and hitting his cutoff man preventing extra bases.

El Cabalo Wraps Rattlers 8, AlamedaOpenHouse.com Volcanoes 2: Alex DeLao and Charlie Weiler led the Rattlers with 2 RBIs batting 2-2 while leadoff hitter Max Ponssa extended his streak with his 6th single of the season. The defensive glove work of Ben Ratto and Leo Miranda kept the game in control as the Rattlers got their first win and .500 on the season. For the Volcanoes, Zachary Screechfield continues to bat 1.000 going 2-2. Jacob Skuta recorded a double along and his first run scored on an RBI from Jameson Hoy. Jameson played well on both sides of the ball recording 4 put outs at first base and batted .500 on the day. Quinn Dooley recorded his team leading 3rd assist.

Vicki Wang, DDS, Orthodontic Care Center IronBirds 9, Nielsen Electric Sand Gnats 2: The IronBirds dialed up timely defensive plays on March 13 against strong hitting from the Sand Gnats.  Nate Stackler and Dante Prado caught pop-ups and Kyle Spaulding picked a hot grounder at pitcher.  Sam Yep made two unassisted force outs at first base to go along with hitting a double. For the Sand Gnats, Stephanie Guitierrez and Sam Bilstein both batted in runs, David Thomas drove a ball to the outfield fence, and Alex Camarena made solid defensive plays at pitcher and shortstop.

AA Division

Law Offices of Robert J. Bezemek and Kabob Central’s Thunder 7 , Alameda Neuropsych  Red Wings 6: Ari Chertock, Jack Loudin, Sean Cook and Liam Johnson pitched for the Red Wings against Thunder on April 9th. Thunder’s Trenton McCoy Nate Dudley and Ethan Maxim had big hits in the 3rd and 4th innings. Thunder’s Plamen Tzvetkov made a great defensive catch in the 2nd inning and Red Wings’ Ben Byers made a great catch in the 3rd. Thunder’s Ezra Hammond stole 2 bases and Plamen’s single hit ended the game.

Pappo Bees 10, Harvest Foods Storm 9Saturday, April 9th,  The Bee's Anthony Anderson slammed a triple in the 2nd, knocking in 1 RBI.  Ethan Tillman singled and stole 2nd in the 4th. David Tuutafaiva bunted for a pivotal play, leading to a strong, tension filled, 6th inning.

The Storm's Nicholas Funchess smacked a double in the 2nd, to deep center, to bring in 1 run. Kyle Arndt, doubled in the 3rd, stealing 3rd and home.  Christian Collins doubled in the 5th, RBIing his teammate Miles Smith. 

Pappo Bees 9, YSF Printing Rock Hounds 8Monday, April 4. On Monday, April 4, the Bees’ Ethan Tillman hit a double off the center field fence in the third, Jackson Barnes struck out the side in the 4th, andDavid Tuutafaiva drove in the game winning run in the bottom of the 6th.

For the Rock Hounds, Zackery Reese had an RBI double to the centerfield fence in the first inning, Conner Sparks struck out three in a row in the fourth inning, and
Sam Silberstein had an unassisted put out at first base in the fifth inning.

YSF Printing Rock Hounds 10, Harvest Foods Storm 9: The game took place on Saturday, April 2nd.  For the Rock Hounds, Ramit Guha struck out the side, in a three-up three-down inning.  Darren Taira ran out an RBI infield single. Nirina Parrish hit a two-out two-RBI double.
 
For the Storm, Marcus Magallariez made an unassisted out at first base. Aeneas Pardo struck out the side in the first inning, and Torin Martin caught a fly ball for an out.
 
All of the kids hustled and showed great sportsmanship.

Law Office of Robert J. Bezemek Thunder 5, YSF Rock Hounds 4: The first game of the season, March 13, started as a pitcher’s duel between Nathan Dudley (Thunder) and Connor Sparks (RockHounds). The Rock Hounds scored first, with hits from Nirina Parrish and Nicholas Demmler. Team Thunder scored on hits by Jacques Hernandez and Wylie Jordan. Tied at 4-4, the game ended on a 2 out bottom of the 6th inning single by Logan Carnerie to bring home the winning run.   

Law Offices of Robert Bezemek Thunder 9, Tomatina Hot Rods 3: The Hot Rods, fresh off an Opening Day comeback win against the Mud Hens, suffered their first loss of the season to the Thunder on Thursday, March 17. Keelan Good, Jacques Hernandez and Dallas Rider hit well for the Thunder while pitchers Omari Preston, Kian van der Meer, Nate Dudley and Will Dodge held the Hot Rods to just 3 runs. Davis Stewart, Nicholas Ferry, Quinn Tubiolo and Jonathan Atases pitched well for the Hot Rods. 

AAA Division

Power Engineering Rivercats 12, Litho Process Threshers 3: On March 30 the Rivercats’ Jason Gee struck out 3 in one inning, and the Threshers’ Nate Low and Jake Gibbons combined to strike out ten while allowing only two runs.  Dylan Bell led with a triple and 3 RBIs for the Rivercats.  Threshers Brandon Wong got on base twice with a walk and an RBI single.  The Rivercats’ Justin Cavalli helped out on offense and defense, with a double and 2 strikeouts.

Power Engineering Rivercats 10, G and L Plumbing PawDogs 3: On March 16 Rivercats' Elian Pelayo went one for two with a triple and Dylan Bell contributed two singles and 2 RBI's. Osirir Johnson pitched 3 scoreless innings for the Pawsox, and the Sox offense got moving with Koa Sanchez's 2 run single. Joe DePinna got on base twice, scored 1 run and made an unassistedd double play for the Rivercats.   The PawSox Dylan Yee had a great catch in rightfield.

Power Engineering Rivercats 11, Parker & Sears Orthodontics Mudcats 10: Rivercats Tyler Esplana reached base 3 times on March 12.  Teammate Noah Cha was two for two and stopped a Mudcats run.  Mudcat pitchers Max Turner and Sandeep Mahl were both 3 for 3.  Kevork Hill gave up only one in 3 innings - throwing six strikeouts for the Rivercats.  Dean Sarmiento was key on both defensive and offense for the Mudcats. 

Majors

Alameda Firefighters Local 689 Angels 5, Adelante Capital Management Tigers 0: On April 9, the Angels Joseph Rockwell pitched a no-hitter striking out 10 and walking no one.  The Angels Devin Nash crushed a pair of homeruns over the containers in left field and drove in 4 runs to lead the offense.  Han Winchester made a nice defensive play at 2nd base to end the 3rd inning to keep the game perfect.  The Tigers Tony Torres and Tyler Middleton were the only ones to reach base on errors and Adam Bail pitched well allowing only a run in two innings. 

Alameda Firefighters Local 689 Angels 7, Victor P. Republicano Jr., CPA Yankees 5: On April 7, the Angels Abraham Saikley and Nolan Floyd each drove in a pair of runs in the 1st inning to give the Angels a 4-0 lead that they would not relinquish behind the strong pitching of Bryan Woo.  Angel Shortstop Joseph Rockwell turned an unassisted double play to help squash a Yankee rally and Abraham Saikley got Matthew Achramowicz, who had a double and triple earlier in the game, to fly out to first base to end the game.  The Yankees Carson Bridges also had a double, a triple and 2 RBI and Alex Achramowicz had a triple and a pair of runs scored.

Neptune Beach Pearl Giants 2, Pontar Real Estate Management Rays 0: Hunter Hennigh and Devin Noonan hooked up in an early-season pitching duel, giving up one hit between them, with Hennigh going the distance in a 2-0 complete-game, opening no-hitter against the Rays.  The Ginats’Owen Sowerwine reached base twice, stealing two bases, and dashed home to score the game’s second run in a close play at the plate.  Jacob Smith lined a shot to right field to give the Rays hope, but Hennigh struck out the side to end the threat.  The Rays’ Francisco Pedraza relieved Noonan, and struck out all five batters he faced, in an impressive Majors’ Division debut.

Pontar Real Estate Management Rays 5, Alameda Firefighters Local 689 Angels 2: Jacob Smith pitched three shut-out innings, and added two rbi doubles, to lead the Rays over the Angels in a rain-soaked affair on March 14.  Francisco Pedraza launched a titanic, two-run homer over the container in left field, to stake the Rays to an early lead, and closed the game on the mound, pitching  three solid innings to earn the save.  Defensively, Grant Bevan made several strong plays at first base, and Isaac DeLao paced the offense with two hits and two rbi’s.  Joseph Rockwell and Abraham Saikley pitched well for the Angels, and Devin Nash reached base twice, stealing three bases, including a daring theft of home to put the Angels on the board.

 Pontar Real Estate Management Rays 12, Rockies 4: On April 1, Devin Noonan struck out the side in the first, and Grant Bevan followed with two hitless innings to pace the Rays.  Chris Weber launched a three-run homer to stake the Rays to an early lead and went 4-4 on the day, and Isaac DeLao closed out the win with three strong innings of relief.

Alex English and Jarod Kathman paced the Rockies offense, and Wesley Cheung was robbed of extra bases on a deep drive to center field that was run down by the Rays’ Francisco Pedraza.
