Alameda's Cafe Q Makes a 'Top Ten' List

Who doesn't love a restaurant with a "yam and cheese" sandwich on the menu?

Cafe Q, at 2302 Encinal Ave., may not be a secret to the Alameda residents who head there regularly for fresh and local "New American" food.

But it's a "hidden gem" to the East Bay Express, which listed Cafe Q as one of 10 noteworthy neighborhood restaurants in its annual Insiders' Guide, published today.

"When dishes like turkey meat loaf and slow-braised baby back ribs are done as well as they are at Cafe Q, you'd have to be awfully jaded to complain" [about the local abundance of "comfort food"], the Express reports.
