Bosco the Pig's Bacon is Saved!

In a fairytale ending for this porker, Alameda's Police Chief dismisses the citation against the West End pig.

In response to  and admirers, Bosco the miniature pot-bellied pig no longer has the weight of the law hanging over his head.

Alameda Police Chief Mike Noonan paid a personal visit to Bosco’s home to deliver the news that Bosco was saved.

"I can tell you that Deputy City Manager Alex Nguyen took an interest in this case," said Chief Noonan. "We felt the city was better served in reviewing the existing codes, updating them and presenting them to City Council. I did not see any need to pursue this any further. Bosco did not seem to be a threat to anything or anyone. I then asked that the citation be canceled in the interest of justice."

Bosco's owners, Zack and Cassandra Thompson, received news of the reprieve in a phone call from a relative (who was at their home when the chief paid his visit). The Thompsons themselves were occupied at a hospital yesterday awaiting the birth of their first child.

Zack texted from the hospital that the couple were elated by the news. "Thanks to all of our fellow Alamedans who were so supportive of Bosco!" he wrote. "We owe you all a huge debt of gratitude.”

Today Zack reported that their baby, Charlotte, arrived happy and healthy just after 11 p.m. Wednesday night.

"The day ended up being twice as nice," wrote Zack, "our baby's birthday and the date of Bosco's amnesty."

And the three little Thompsons and Bosco all lived happily ever after. Oink! Oink!
