Letter to the Editor: Miss Representation, a Movie Worth Seeing

Girls Inc. of the Island City is hosting a screening of "Miss Representation" at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 18. at Michaan's Auctions.

Dear Editor:

When I first saw the trailer for the documentary film, Miss Representation, all I paid attention to was the pictures of women fighting and of women in bikinis.

I was like "Whoaa, what the heck is this?"

But then, as the trailer went on, I actually grew interested. My nerdy self loves documentaries, and this topic is thought-provoking, especially for teenage girls who base what they look like off of the media's images.

If you are a girl and you don't look like the images in the media, your self esteem goes low and you feel bad mentally.

In Miss Representation, they talk a lot about this. If you go to the film, you can understand what it really means to be a girl. I could talk about it until my face turns blue. I feel so strongly about this topic that my mom and I are going to attend the hosted by Girls Inc. next Tuesday. I hope you will come, too.

Sincerely,
Sabrina Moqadam, age 13, Wood Middle School
