No Fireworks Watching from Alameda Point

Main Street west of the ferry terminal will be a "no parking" zone the evening of July 4.

The area west of the Oakland-Alameda Ferry Terminal on Main Street will be closed from 8 a.m. to midnight on July 4, the Alameda Police Department has announced.

"In years past, many have traveled to Alameda to watch the fireworks displays in neighboring Oakland and San Francisco," police said in a press release.

"The heavy influx of vehicle traffic has compromised the safety of local businesses and residents.

"This year, in an effort to promote community safety and effectively manage the flow of pedestrian and vehicular traffic, the area west of the Oakland-Alameda Ferry Terminal on Main Street will be closed from  8 a.m. to midnight.

"The area will be clearly marked with “No Parking/Tow-Away” signage. Vehicles in violation are subject to a citation and/or towing at the owner’s expense."

The ferry terminal parking lot will be open for the use of ferry passengers on July 4, the release said.

The City of Oakland will not have a fireworks display on Independence Day this year, the announcement noted.
