Victim of Central Ave. Hit-and-Run Recovering

Police have no clues to the identity of the driver involved in the Saturday afternoon accident

A man hospitalized after being hit by a sports car while crossing Central Avenue Saturday, April 21, is recovering, Alameda police said today.

The victim, believed to be an employee of the , is now recovering at home, acccording to Sgt. Ron Simmons of the Alameda Police Department's traffic division.

Simmons said the victim and a fellow employee had left work and were crossing the street "between intersections" in the 700 block of Central about 1:45 p.m. when a small, dark-colored sports car approached.

Passersby yelled a warning, and one of the men was able to jump out of the way, while the other was hit by the car, Simmons said. Police have not released the victim's identity.

Simmons said the driver did not stop and police currently do not have information that could identify the driver. The accident is being investigated as a felony hit-and-run.

Simmons cautioned pedestrians to use marked crosswalks whenever possible for their own safety.
