Warning to Customers of Lucky's Self Check-Out Lanes

Lucky Supermarkets discovered tampered credit/debit card readers in the self check-lanes of its store in Alameda's Marina Village Shopping Center and 18 other Lucky markets, and is urging those who used the machines to check their credit and debit accounts.

Lucky and its parent company, Modesto-based Save Mart Supermarkets, made the disclosure in a statement Wednesday, saying it was acting "out of an abundance of caution."

"We are not aware nor have we been notified of any reports that customer accounts were compromised," the company said.

"As a precaution, we are recommending anyone who has used the self check-out lane in the affected stores to verify/monitor all credit/debit accounts with their financial institution to ensure everything is in order," the advisory said. "We have also suggested the following websites for those who would like more information, California Office of Privacy Protection at www.privacy.ca.gov or the Federal Trade Commission at www.consumer.gov/idtheft."

All of the tampered machines have been removed and extra security measures put into place at all of the company's 234 stores, the statement said.

The company said the tampered machines were found at the following 19 Lucky markets and one Save Mart store:
