FAAS Benefit Concert: Folk, Blues & Celtic

High Street Station, 1303 High St, Alameda, CA | Get Directions »
$10.00

"That was cosmic....great guitar, great fiddle and a voice that bring Traditional Music to life." – David Stafford, KKUP Friday Folk-Off

Blending fingerstyle guitar rhythms and vocal harmonies with violin/fiddle, flute, hand-drum and slide guitar lead lines, the Jon Rubin Group quartet combines traditional forms -- blues, folk, celtic – with a pinch of classical and jazz, serving up an original acoustic fusion with the natural flavors of wood and steel. Their eclectic playlist runs the gamut from British folk to Americana country gospel blues to celtic fiddle tunes.

Since early 2011 the hauntingly beautiful Celtic sounds of Sweetfire -- fiddler Laurel Thomsen http://www.laurelthomsen.com and vocalist Shannon Miller http://www.shannonmillermusic.com/ -- have blended with the blues-infused fingerstyle guitar of Jon Rubin http://www.jr-guitar.com/ at over thirty N. Calif. performances. Joining the acoustic trio for this special show: Lisa Graciano http://www.myspace.com/lisagraciano is a Berkeley-based bluesy singer/songwriter, guitar player and multi-instrumentalist who began playing in the clubs of Amsterdam.

All artist's proceeds for this show benefit Friends of Alameda Animal Shelter http://faas.bbnow.org/

Harking back to the days when this corner was a train station, High Street Station serves light meals in casual comfort. Eat your salad at a table or sip your latte on the couch. Pick your favorite jukebox song and grab a newspaper or settle in with your laptop. Better still, show up for hearty BBQ buffet on Saturday nights, and stay for the live music. For an Irish flavor, come Friday nights -- you might find corned beef and cabbage, along with one of your favorite Celtic bands.

With a two-room flow and hardwood floors for dancing, this spacious cafe can be booked for private parties. A beer and wine license is in the works.
