The Alameda Merchants (19-21) baseball team has just joined the Pacific West Baseball League (PWBL).
The PWBL is a competitive wood-bat league, whose stated objective is to advance collegiate baseball prospects towards their futures of becoming professional ball players, while providing the structure and guidance to return to their respective colleges after the season. Additionally, the league strives to promote a family-oriented atmosphere for fans to enjoy top-level competition by dedicated players, acting as positive role models for young athletes in the community.
For the 2012 season, the PWBL will have franchises in Alameda, Atwater, Auburn, Fresno, Lodi, Sacramento, Salinas, San Rafael, San Francisco and Carson City, Nevada. All teams affiliated with the PWBL, showcase some of the top talent in the country, with potential Major League stars gracing the diamonds each season.
