The Conservative Forum of Silicon Valley congratulates the residents of Alameda County for defeating Measure B1 tax on the recent ballot. The Yes campaign spent $600,000 trying to pass the measure that requires a 2/3 vote. The opposition had no money, just concerned citizens with passion.
Whether a person agrees with the measure or not the fact that concerned citizens can still effect a local election without a lot of money shows our democracy is not yet dead.
The SFBay CAPR (Citizens Alliance for Property Rights) and SFBay 912 Project helped defeat this measure and when the opposition called for a recount people from the Election Integrity Project pitched in to help monitor the recount. After the recount of 30,000 votes only gained the proponents 7 votes it was called off.
The Conservative Forum supports these two organizations with free table space at our events and many of their members are also our members.
In the spirit of unity and democracy we congratulate both groups.
