World's Most Intelligent People 2010 – Intelligent People – Highest IQ

You would be wrong to think that the world’s most intelligent person is billionaire Mukesh Ambani (worth $63.2), or Bill Gates ($62.29 billion). The world’s most intelligent people seem to hold very simple jobs and have very ordinary lives.

An intelligence quotient, or IQ, is a score derived from several different standardized tests designed to assess intelligence. When modern IQ tests are constructed, the mean (average) score within an age group is set to 100 and the standard deviation (SD) to 15. Today almost all IQ tests adhere to the assignment of 15 IQ points. Approximately 95% of the population have scores within two SDs of the mean, i.e., an IQ between 70 and 130.

The original notion of IQ and proposed this scale for classifying IQ scores: Genius IQ is generally considered to begin around 140 to 145. Here's a rough guide:

  • 115-124 - Above average (e.g., university students)
  • 125-134 - Gifted (e.g., post-graduate students)
  • 135-144 - Highly gifted (e.g., intellectuals)
  • 145-154 - Genius (e.g., professors)
  • 155-164 - Genius (e.g., Nobel Prize winners)
  • 165-179 - High genius
  • 180-200 - Highest genius
  • >200 - "Unmeasurable genius"

Genius IQ is generally considered to begin around 140 to 145.  The following people are considered (as of 2010) to be in or above Genius range:-

  • Physicist / Engineer Kim Ung-yong (Korea) has a verified IQ of 210
  • Bouncer Christopher Michael Langan (USA) has a verified IQ of 195
  • Engineer Philip Emeagwali (Nigera) is alleged to have an IQ of 190
  • Author Marilyn Vos Savant (USA) has a verified IQ of 186
  • Actor James Woods - (USA)is alleged to have an IQ of 180

  • Musician - Gürkan Kýlýç  (USA) has a verified IQ of 147         
  • Aerospace Design - Okay Karakas (Turkey) has a verified IQ of 144        

In 1926, psychologist Dr. Catherine Morris Cox – who had been assisted by Dr. Lewis M. Terman, Dr. Florence L. Goodenaugh, and Dr. Kate Gordon – published a study “of the most eminent men and women” who had lived between 1450 and 1850 to estimate what their IQs might have been. Data from that study as well as other sources around the net were compiled to form the following list. 

  • William James Sidis with an IQ ranging 200 to 300
  • Engineer Philip Emeagwali with an IQ of 190
  • World Chess Champion Garry Kasparov with an IQ of 190
  • Sir Isaac Newton with an IQ of 190
  • Francois-Marie Arouet (Voltaire) with an IQ 190
  • Ludwig Wittgenstein with an IQ 190
  • Leonardo da Vinci with an IQ of 180
  • Actor James Woods with an IQ of 180
  • Buonarroti Michelangelo with an IQ of 180
  • David Hume with an IQ 180
  • Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with an IQ of 180
  • Blaise Pascal with an IQ of 171
  • Microsoft Founder Paul Allen with an IQ of 160
  • Martin Luther with an IQ of 170
  • Michael Faraday with an IQ of 170

Whether or not IQ tests are an accurate measure of intelligence is open to debate. It is difficult to define exactly what constitutes intelligence; it may be the case that IQ scores represent a very specific type of intelligence.
