World's Most Intelligent People 2010 – Intelligent People – Highest IQ

You would be wrong to think that the world’s most intelligent person is billionaire Mukesh Ambani (worth $63.2), or Bill Gates ($62.29 billion). The world’s most intelligent people seem to hold very simple jobs and have very ordinary lives.

An intelligence quotient, or IQ, is a score derived from several different standardized tests designed to assess intelligence. When modern IQ tests are constructed, the mean (average) score within an age group is set to 100 and the standard deviation (SD) to 15. Today almost all IQ tests adhere to the assignment of 15 IQ points. Approximately 95% of the population have scores within two SDs of the mean, i.e., an IQ between 70 and 130.

The original notion of IQ and proposed this scale for classifying IQ scores: Genius IQ is generally considered to begin around 140 to 145. Here's a rough guide:

  • 115-124 - Above average (e.g., university students)
  • 125-134 - Gifted (e.g., post-graduate students)
  • 135-144 - Highly gifted (e.g., intellectuals)
  • 145-154 - Genius (e.g., professors)
  • 155-164 - Genius (e.g., Nobel Prize winners)
  • 165-179 - High genius
  • 180-200 - Highest genius
  • >200 - "Unmeasurable genius"

Genius IQ is generally considered to begin around 140 to 145.  The following people are considered (as of 2010) to be in or above Genius range:-

  • Physicist / Engineer Kim Ung-yong (Korea) has a verified IQ of 210
  • Bouncer Christopher Michael Langan (USA) has a verified IQ of 195
  • Engineer Philip Emeagwali (Nigera) is alleged to have an IQ of 190
  • Author Marilyn Vos Savant (USA) has a verified IQ of 186
  • Actor James Woods - (USA)is alleged to have an IQ of 180

In 1926, psychologist Dr. Catherine Morris Cox – who had been assisted by Dr. Lewis M. Terman, Dr. Florence L. Goodenaugh, and Dr. Kate Gordon – published a study “of the most eminent men and women” who had lived between 1450 and 1850 to estimate what their IQs might have been. Data from that study as well as other sources around the net were compiled to form the following list.

  • William James Sidis with an IQ ranging 200 to 300
  • Engineer Philip Emeagwali with an IQ of 190
  • World Chess Champion Garry Kasparov with an IQ of 190
  • Sir Isaac Newton with an IQ of 190
  • Francois-Marie Arouet (Voltaire) with an IQ 190
  • Ludwig Wittgenstein with an IQ 190

  • Galileo Galilei with an IQ of 165
  • Albert Einstein with an IQ of 160
  • Charles Darwin with IQ of 150
  • George Washington with an IQ of 140

Whether or not IQ tests are an accurate measure of intelligence is open to debate. It is difficult to define exactly what constitutes intelligence; it may be the case that IQ scores represent a very specific type of intelligence.

Most Intelligent People 2010: Bobby Fischer, Chess Champion, died in January, 2008. Also, Mukesh Ambani must be worth more than $63.2. It's called proofreading, folks.

Lighten up....it indicates that the man is a Billionaire, thus the dollar amount in decimals CLEARLY indicates that the has that many Billions. Also, no where are they claiming that these people are currently alive...just by the standards of 2010 they would be considered geniuses. I worked as an editor for many years and this passes muster...as if it really matters.

"You would be wrong to think that the world’s most intelligent person is billionaire Mukesh Ambani (worth $63.2), or Bill Gates ($62.29 billion)." In mathematics, the next number that would come after $63.2 would be a zero, not the word "billion". As it is, this reads as if poor old Ambani only has $63.20, hardly even within emailing distance of Gates. Would you be willing to concede that Mukesh Ambani deserved at least the same "billion" designation as Bill Gates was given? You worked as an editor for many years, you say. Shall we all assume that you are now retired and don't give a hoot about clarity any longer? Is this a just a hobby for you? And I repeat: "Chess Champion - Bobby Fischer (UK) is alleged to have an IQ of 167". That's a pretty good parlor trick, considering he's been dead and buried for nearly four years. These are just errors that popped out when I gave the email a cursory glance. Don't be in such a hurry to put something online if you haven't proofed it. If you can't do it, have someone else do it for you. There are plenty of people out of work here. I bet somebody would love to have your job. IT DOES MATTER, CHARLOTTE. Language precision matters, particularly in a print format. Oy.
