DETAILS: The Young Songwriters Workshop & Jam Session Concert provides an extraordinary opportunity for young songwriters to collaborate with notable Bay Area musicians such Preston Turner of Pure Ecstasy and drummer D.C. Carter. Applicants between the ages of 15 and 21 years from the 9-county Bay Area are invited to submit original lyrics (PG 13) and demos.
All applicants must be able to read music, and are also asked to indicate vocal ability and style and instrument preference and level of mastery.
A screening process will determine what songs will be selected as well as who will participate in the performances and in what role.
Selected applicants will take part in a workshop from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., where they will partner with experienced musicians in producing and rehearsing the chosen songs.
From 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., the aspiring songwriters, young vocalists and musicians, and industry veterans and will perform their collaborative work live.

ALAMEDA EDUCATION FOUNDATION: This event kicks-off AEF’s “Instrument Drop-Off Drive.” Last year, enough guitars were collected during the drive to start a musical program at Wood Middle School. A CD of the concert will be produced and donated to AEF.
Additionally, during all concerts, Alameda South Shore Center serves as the location for the Alameda Education Foundation’s School Supply Drive and fundraiser with Peter’s Kettle Corn, which helps hundreds of Alameda’s students in need.
