Encinal High School sponsors the annual baseball competition,
which draws high school teams from all over the Bay Area to compete in Alameda.
The tournament was founded 23 years ago in recognition of legendary Encinal
baseball alumni, Willie Stargell (Pittsburgh Pirates, MLB Hall of Fame). This
year’s teams included: Acalanes, Alameda, Antioch, Dublin, Encinal, Dougherty
Valley, Heritage and Skyline. The tournament was plagued by inclement weather,
but all the teams played valiantly through intermittent rain showers and
postponements. It was the first time in 13 years that the Encinal team made it
to the final championship game, where they lost narrowly to Heritage, with a
final score of 1-3. The Jets team played well and worked hard as hosts during
the tournament, and the Coaches and families are very proud of their efforts!
Alameda High played in the consolation final, coming in 4th overall.
The Encinal Baseball team would like to thank all the parents and spectators who supported them, the students and teachers who contributed and helped during the tournament, and the sponsors whose generous support helped make the tournament possible.
