Mayor Marie Gilmore and Alameda Kiwanis Club recently honored eight students with Hope of America Awards.
The Hope of America Award has been awarded by the Alameda Kiwanis since 1986.
The award recognizes eighth-grade students in the city of Alameda who demonstrate outstanding capacity for leadership, ethical and moral character and academic competency.
The Kiwanis meet Wednesday at noon at the Elks Lodge, 2255 Santa Clara Avenue, Alameda. Guests are welcome for the program and optional lunch. Kiwanis is an organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child at a time. For more information visit www.alamedakiwanis.org.
