Alameda Education Foundation Welcomes New Board Members

Diane Foster, Kathy Moehring and Courtney Shepler have joined the AEF board.

From an Alameda Education Foundation press release:

The Alameda Education Foundation is pleased to announce the recent election of three new members to its Board of Directors: Diane Foster, Kathy Moehring and Courtney Shepler.

“We are excited to welcome these new members,” said Bill Sonneman, Foundation board president. “Each brings a wealth of experience and expertise that will help our Foundation grow in our support of quality education for Alameda public school students.”

Diane Foster is a former teacher who currently is president of Diane Foster & Associates, an internationally-recognized provider of leadership competency and career management services. Diane brings expertise in administration/management, education, entrepreneurialism, government, human resources, marketing/public relations, non-profit management/governance, and strategic planning.

Diane believes that “unless our schools can give the best education possible to each and every child our whole economy and the future of our country and indeed the world is in danger” and believes that serving on the Foundation Board will enable her to “make a contribution to education and the students of Alameda.”

Kathy Moehring is Director of Community Affairs for the Harbor Bay Group of Companies and has held many leadership positions in the Alameda community, including Alameda Family Services, Alameda Boys & Girls Club, Business Advisory Board for the College of Alameda and Alameda Rotary Club.

Kathy brings expertise in arts/culture, entrepreneurialism, government, marketing/public relations, and nonprofit management/governance.

She believes that educational opportunities “should not be reserved for those who can afford them. I strongly believe that education is the only thing that separates the haves from the have nots and would love to be a part of leveling the playing field” through her work with the Foundation.

Courtney Shepler is a CPA and will serve as treasurer of the Foundation.

Courtney has served as treasurer or auditor for many organizations and efforts, including Bay Farm School and two recent parcel tax campaigns. She currently serves on the Alameda Unified School District’s Measure A oversight committee.

Courtney brings expertise in administration/management, entrepreneurialism, finance, human resources, non-profit management/governance, and strategic planning.

She believes that the Foundation “is such an important part of the Alameda school community and I hope to see the reach and influence of Alameda Education Foundation grow in coming years.”

The mission of the nonprofit Alameda Education Foundation, which was established in 1982, is to engage the community, raise funds and coordinate programs to support and enhance the quality of K-12 public education in Alameda.

Key Foundation programs include Adopt A Classroom, which provides $500 grants to teachers; Enrichment, which serves approximately 4500 students per year with after-school classes and summer camps; Middle School Sports; and the Equipped 4 Success community-wide school supply drive.

Foundation programs serve over 10,000 K-12 Alameda public school students.
