Coast Guard Conducts Search and Rescue Drill Today

The Alameda Fire Department firefighters will staff a rescue boat and swimmers at the event. Local elementary school children will also be observing the demonstration from the shoreline.

From the Alameda Fire Department

The United States Coast Guard (USCG) will be conducting a Search and Rescue (SAR) demonstration in the San Leandro Channel, near the Bay Farm Island Bridge today at 12 p.m.

They will deploy and recover a rescue swimmer, using a USCG helicopter.

The Alameda Fire Department will also be at this event, providing firefighters who will staff a rescue boat with rescue swimmers.

“We are pleased to be able to support the United States Coast Guard during this important demonstration," said Fire Chief Michael D’Orazi. "These exercises are invaluable to our commitment for outstanding services to the community and training with our mutual aid partners."

Several of the community's elementary schools will be in attendance, observing from the shoreline.

Also, if I had to guess, I'd say he's Filipino or Asian; there's a remote chance he's White, butRead More definitely not Black.

Karra--I definitely will. I can't give a great description because he always wears a dark blue orRead More black baseball-type hat and grey jacket. He's relatively short--maybe 5'6" - 5'8". Looks to be in his early to mid-50s, but may be in his late 40s. He is usually in the dune grass with binoculars pretending to look at something in the direction of Bay Farm and will swing around occasionally and pretend to look toward SF to throw off anyone who might be watching. I've only seen him in the area between Willow Street and Kitty Hawk, but I'm sure that's not his only haunt.

Found!!! He followed me into my downstairs neighbor's house. I went to borrow some eggs. My neighborRead More was at work. I didn't know he followed me in, didn't see or hear him, got the eggs and left. I called that brat for over three hours. He raided my neighbor's garbage can and a bachelor nap on his sofa! Yay. I'm glad he's home and safe. Thank you everyone.

Good luck with that. I stopped patronizing them a year ago after some shifty practices with my highRead More end items: wouldn't give me a receipt and then my items sat untagged for three weeks. Completely missed the xmas shopping season.

It is really dangerous coming out of the dog park/tennis court parking lot. We never try to turnRead More left coming out of it, always right - and even then you have to be super careful because cars just come speeding down the street.
