Calling All Girl
Scouts Past and Present

Celebrate a Century
of Service (1912 – 2012)

If you ever were, or are now, a Girl
Scout, you’re invited to celebrate a momentous occasion, the one hundredth anniversary
of the organization’s founding.

On Monday, March 12, 2012, Girl Scouts of
the USA, alumnae, families, friends and supporters will gather in town centers across
the country to honor this milestone.

The town of Alameda’s celebration will take place at Alameda
South Shore Center, 523 South Shore Center West, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The festivities will feature traditional songs, games, scouting activities and refreshments, including madeleines provided by DonSueMor, and programs printed by Alameda Copy. Local dignitaries and special guests will be in attendance.

At precisely 19:12 military time (7:12
PST), a reference to the organization’s founding year, attendees will recite the Girl Scout Promise and sing Happy Birthday. A commemorative birthday cake will
be provided by SVGoods.

“We are pleased to host the
Girl Scouts at South Shore Center and look forward to celebrating this historic milestone with them and the City of Alameda. The scouts have
made immeasurable contributions to our communities,
instilling so many girls with the capabilities and confidence to become inspired, committed citizens,” said Michael Phillips, chief operating officer of Jamestown.

More than 500 scouts, past and present,
are expected to participate in the celebration.

The public is invited to show their
support of the centennial by wearing green on March 12.

Girl Scouts of the USA was founded by Juliette Gordon Low in Savannah, Georgia.
In her honor, Savannah Smiles, a new lemon cookie, is being introduced this
year and will be sold, along with classics such as Thin Mints, Tagalongs and Samoas, as part of the organization’s annual cookie
drive. Scouts will staff cookie booths onsite at Alameda
South Shore
Center (and other locations throughout
the East Bay) from February 13 through March 18.
