"Who Do You Say I Am?" Power, Politics and Theological Diversity in Early Christianity

For over two thousand years, people have been encountering Jesus. For some he has been a rabbi; for others, a revolutionary, for others the Messiah and Son of God. Whether he provoked fear and anger or fellowship and joy, Jesus modeled a way of life in which the spiritual and political were nearly indistinguishable. Christianity emerged historically as a religion responding to this profound tension. In this series we will discuss the historical and political context of Jesus' ministry and message, its adaptations by Christians in both the pages of Scripture and over the course of history (even to this day). Throughout, we will discuss crucial conversations and disagreements that have both divided and united Christians about the nature of his ministry, his death, and the Gospels that tell his story.
