If you're like me, you have too many clothes and not enough space. Now is the time to organize your closet and make room for all the new spring and summer fashions.
First, take everything out of your closet. Yes, everything! Now, sort your clothes and other possessions into four piles: keep, store, donate and sell.
Keep: These are items you wear now and and that fit you well. The hot pink macramé swimsuit will need to go. Don’t kid yourself!
Store: Items that are out of season and you will not need right now.
Donate: Anything in good condition that you have not worn in over a year or that does not fit. or a women’s shelter are good places to drop these off.
Sell: Items that may have a higher value (designer items or vintage pieces). eBay or consignment shops are great places to sell these items.
If something needs mended or dry cleaned, take care of it.
As you put away the “keep” items, hang like items together (dresses, skirts, jackets) and organize by color.
Consider adding a hanging shoe rack on the back of the closet door and small hooks for holding scarves
Personal touches such as photos or art on your closet walls will make getting dressed feel more like a luxury than a chore
Getting your closet in order makes it easier and more fun to create outfits. When you go shopping, you will know what's missing from your wardrobe, instead of buying the same things over and over again like so many of us do.
Your clean closet may even inspire you to create new looks with what you already have. Well, just maybe.
