Altarena Playhouse 2012 Season Tickets on Sale Now

Fences, The Mousetrap, Spring Awakening, Private Lives and the Fantasticks are part of this year's ambitious performance line up.

 

Tickets are now on sale for the 2012 Season at the Altarena Playhouse in Alameda and theater-goers are encouraged to reserve their seats early.

Its first production, Fences, is runs through Feb. 19. It explores 1950s race relations in America.

The Mousetrap opens March 16 and runs through April 22. This murder-mystery set in 1952 London is the longest-running play in history.

Spring Awakening will be presented June 8 through July 15. Spring Awakening casts a light on the turmoil of adolescence.

Aug. 3 through Sept. 2 the play Private Lives will be staged. A comedy, this play explores what happens when a divorced couple finds themselves living next door to one another with their new spouses.

The Altarena offers up the very popular musical The Fantasticks Sept. 28 through Nov. 4. The show is appropriate for all ages.

Since 1938 the Alameda Little Theatre Inc. has brought live theater performances to the Island. 

Today it is known as the , located across from the entrance to Lincoln Park on High Street. But, in 1957 the building where many Alamedans first experienced the excitement of live theater, was an abandoned grocery store. The building was transformed into the Altarena Playhouse through the hard work and dedication of the theater community.

The playhouse has become a local cultural institution bringing plays, musicals and other live performances to audiences year after year and providing a showcase for talented local performers.
