Boulder, CO Violinist to Benefit Midway Shelter

Gregory Walker, violinist and concertmaster at the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra will perform a concert benefiting Alameda’s Midway Shelter for Women and Children.

This recital, titled “The Many Lives of the Violin - a Family Affair,” will include the music of J.S. Bach, Dolores White, Fritz Kreisler and Jimi Hendrix.

Walker has appeared as soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Colorado Music Festival Orchestra, the Cleveland Chamber Symphony and the Colorado Symphony as well as Poland’s Filharmonia Sudecka and Encuentro Musical de los Americas in Havana, Cuba.  Among CRI, Orion, Leonarda and Albany recordings is Kaleidoscope: The Music of African American Women and Electric Vivaldi, a Newport Classic interpretation/remix of Antonio Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. He will be joined by his family: pianists Lori and Dashiel Walker and 12 year old violinist, Grayson Walker. Based in Alameda since 1988, the Midway Shelter serves homeless women and their children, giving them a fresh
start through counseling, support groups, goal setting, referrals, wellness services, and housing linkage, provided in a warm and accepting environment. Midway is a partnership between the Alameda Homeless Network and Building Futures with Women and Children. (www.BFWC.org)
