Dogwatch Nautical Band at High Street Station

Dogwatch Nautical Band – a Bay Area institution since 1978 – will perform in concert on April 9, 2011 from 7:00PM to 10:00PM.  The concert will be held at High Street Station, 1303 High Street (Corner of High Street and Encinal).  There will be a sliding scale cover charge from $5 to $20 at the door.

Dogwatch Nautical Band was formed in 1978 in order perform at the Dickens Christmas Faire.  Gary Keep, the last original member, and long-time resident of Alameda recalls numerous personnel changes over the years.  The current configuration – Gary Keep, Roger Bramble, “Papa” Robert Hill, Claire Norman, Steve Aultman, Shay Black and Craig Johnson – have been performing together since the late 1990s.  Gary Keep, Roger Bramble and “Papa” Robert Hill are all Alameda natives.

Typically seen at the San Francisco Maritime Museum’s “Festival At Sea” or “Christmas At Sea” events, as well as frequent performers at Alameda’s Crab Cove, April 9th’s  concert will represent their second appearance at High Street Station.  Currently they are recording their first album and so you may expect an evening of sea songs, ballads and shanties from the 1500s to the present.
