Live at the Library

Live at the Library is a concert series benefiting the Alameda Free Library. Doors open at 7 p.m. where you can buy wine, soda, coffee and light snacks in Dewey's Cafe. The concerts begin at 8 p.m. All concerts are held at the Main ibrary in the Regina K. Stafford Room.

Tickets for three concerts are $75, one concert for $30. Tickets can be purchased at , Dewey's Friends Cafe (in the Main Library), or at www.brownpapertickets.com.

The series is hosted by the Alameda Library Foundation, Friends of the Alameda Library and the City Library Board Art Committee. Community sponsors will underwrite expenses so all proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the library. Sponsors are: Perforce Software, First Community Bank and Bank of Alameda. In-kind donations are being received from Cairdea Design and Marketing, Books Inc. and Dewey's Friends Café.

On Saturday, September 24, Anton Schwartz will perform. Anton is an Oakland based jazz saxophonist and composer with a beautiful sound and ken imagination. He will perform with a small group of jazz artists.

On Saturday, October 22, Wesla Whitfield and Mike Greensill will perform. Wesla is a gifted performer who breaths life into the exquisite body of Broadway tunes, movie songs and Hit Parade numbers known collectively as the Great American Songbook. Mike is a musical director for his wife, Wesla, and is resident piano player and sidekick on Sedge Thomson's weekly public radio show, West Coast Live. He plays jazz and writes for big bands and symphonies.

On Saturday, November 19, Amanda King will perform. Amanda is a classic chanteuse who performs little known gems from the 1930's and 40's, as well as jazz standards and popular songs from the Great American Songbook.
