Library Talk on 'Treasures from the Louvre'

Docent Marsha Holm will give a presentation at the Alameda Free Library Wednesday night on the extraordinary "Royal Treasures of the Louvre" exhibit now on display at the Legion of Honor in San Francisco.

San Francisco's Legion of Honor museum says the items that it's displaying on loan from the Louvre in Paris include "some of the most exquisite treasures of the French monarchy from the time of Louis XIV until the revolution of 1789."

That exhibition, "Royal Treasures from the Louvre: Louis XIV to Marie-Antoinette," is the topic of a presentation by docent Marsha Holm at the Alameda Free Library on Wednesday, 6:30-8 p.m., at the Alameda Free Library.

Among the treasures are a masterwork tabletop of semiprecious stones, Marie Antoinette's precious vases, and porcelain and silver items made for Louis XIV by his mistresses, Madame de Pompadour and Madame du Barry.
