Local Dancer Hector Corrales Wins State Title

Hector Corrales, a 13-year-old jazz, ballet and hip hop dancer at Pamm Drake's DANCE/10 Performing Arts Center in Alameda won with his portrayal of "Seize the Day" from the Disney Musical Newsies.

A student at Pamm Drake’s DANCE/10 Performing Arts Center in Alameda recently won the title Teen Mr. Dance of California from Dance Masters of California Chapter 13.

Hector Corrales, a 13-year-old jazz, ballet and hip hop dancer, won with his portrayal of Seize the Day from the Disney Musical Newsies.

Drake, also known as the director of the popular Tap Dancing Christmas Trees, has had nine other male title holders who have won 16 titles including Master of Dance, Junior Mr. Dance, Teen Mr. Dance and Mr. Dance of California and first runner up for Junior Mr. Dance of  America.

Corrales’ routines was inspired by former Dance/10 student Julian DeGuzman who was Master of Dance, Jr. Mr. Dance, and Teen Mr. Dance and is currently appearing in Newsies on Broadway.

He will be performing at Great America in April, attending Dance Masters competition in May and will be attending Showstopper Nationals held at Disneyland in July. Corrales will also be performing at California Adventure with the company from Dance/10.

Elisa Henderson, a Miss Dance contestant, won sixth overall in the scholarship auditions.
