Stephen Michael's name has become synonymous with the Alameda youth music scene. For the last few years he has hosted the popular free open mic events at the , giving talented teen musicians a chance to perform before a live audience.
Now, he has announced he will host his last open mic at High Street Station on April 5 from 6 to 9 p.m. and he is inviting the entire community to come to enjoy a free evening concert with his "Rickety Van Band"
In addition to Stephen Michael, the local musicians performing in the band are Ocean Orms on drums, Dan Brownson playing bass, Justin Vanegas on Guitar, Zach Wong on Mandolin, Tommy P playing slide guitar and banjo, and Rawn Wadley on percussion and congas. The much-acclaimed Katrina Nadora will provide vocals, and hometown musician will return from Los Angeles for this special performance to play keyboards and guitar with the band.
This is an event geared to all ages, so families are welcome.
Stephen Michael, who is a student at San Francisco State University, will continue to perform throughout the Bay Area and you can catch him in a free acoustic guitar concert in the East Bay from 2 to 4 p.m. April 7 at the Grand Lake Coffee House, 440 Grand Avenue, Oakland. According to Stephen Michael's website, the open mic will continue at High Street Station once a new host can be found.
