Honoring LGBT Americans in History

The Alameda Multicultural Community Center will host a film event in recognition of LGBT History Month, honoring the contributions of LGBT Americans in history. An excerpt from the documentary film Brother Outsider: The Life of Bayard Rustin, esteemed African-American civil rights leader and chief organizer of the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs & Freedom, will be screened.  A panel discussion will follow with guest speakers Nancy Kates, (Producer/Director of Brother Outsider), Reverend Laura Rose (First Congregational Church Alameda) and Jill Marcellus (Gay-Straight Alliance Network).

Everyone welcome.  The venue is wheelchair accessible and near bus lines 20, 21 & 51A.

LGBT History Month takes place during the month of October in the U.S.  California's FAIR Education Act, SB48, now legislates that the role and contributions of LGBT people in history will be included in social sciences instruction, as are the contributions of  men and women, and those with disabilities and from cultural and ethnic groups.
