"Not In Our Town: Light in the Darkness" Film Event & Panel Discussion

The second film event of a three-part Not In Our Town series will screen the documentary film Not In Our Town: Light in the Darkness, followed by a panel discussion. This film focuses on hate crimes against immigrants and solutions developed by one community.  The location will be the College of Alameda Student Lounge, Building F.

Panelists will be Dr. Jannett Jackson, President-College of Alameda; Sean McPhetridge, Assistant Superintendent-Alameda Unified School District; Teresita Valeriano, Outreach Director-Evangelical Lutheran Church in America; Deisi Martinez, COA Latinos Unidos Student Club.

Light in the Darkness tells the story of a town coming together to take action after anti-immigrant violence devastates the community. Leaders and residents of Patchogue, NY come together to address the underlying causes of the violence in their community, work to heal divisions, and begin taking steps to ensure everyone in their village will be safe and respected. The film is produced by the organization Not In Our Town: Working Together for Safe Inclusive Communities.
