A new venue for people to unleash their creative energies has opened in downtown Alameda.

Artistic Home Studio and Boutique is a do-it-yourself home décor art studio and store. The studio/store is located inside the former Pillow Park Plaza, now called Park Street Plaza, at 1419 Park Street.

The Art Studio specializes in offering workshops in decorative painting techniques for the home, as well as glass-related arts such as mosaics and stained glass. It also offers daily drop-in studio where the public can make kiln-formed fused glass art.

Additionally, the studio offers a Youth Program that includes Summer Camps and after-school art classes. The Boutique features artisan-made home accessories and jewelry.

One of main products featured in the Boutique is a specialty paint called Chalk Paint® decorative paint by Annie Sloan. Rachel Gingold, a member of the studio team, will teach workshops on how to use Chalk Paint® to transform old, tired furniture into colorful and beautiful heirloom pieces.

“Chalk Paint® is a fabulous paint,” Gingold said. “It adheres to almost any surface - wood, metal, cement, plastic, glass and ceramic. Also it very rarely requires any preparation, such as sanding or priming, and can be used indoors and out.”

The Boutique carries the full line of Chalk Paint® and Annie Sloan products.  Annie Sloan is the developer of Chalk Paint® and is one of the world’s leading experts in decorative painting techniques.

The owner, JaYing Wang, is a mosaic artist with numerous public mosaic installations in the Bay Area.

“I'm delighted to bring my love of glass arts and painting to the community and am eager to share the joy of working with beautiful glass”, Wang said.  “I'm excited to teach different glass crafts like fused glass, mosaics and stain glass, and Rachel is looking forward to teaching decorative painting workshops.”
