Vision for Vacancies — Former Great American Barbecue

What would you like to see at the former Great American Barbecue on High Street?

Great American BBQ has closed their restaurant on High Street and they’re moving to Oakland. We would like to know what you would like to see here?

The space is located at 2009 High Street, right as you enter Alameda from the High Street Bridge. I was able to contact the owner, Harry Stewart, and after some initial resistance he said some of the reasons they decided to move is they weren’t able to get a liquor license at this location and they also need more space to grow their catering business.  However, when I went by the space today I found an eviction notice on the window.

What would you like to see fill this vacancy?

UPDATE:  Spotmojo has been working with Patch since late November on these “What should go here?” articles and collecting your suggestions.  The participation has been very good and we thank everyone that’s been participating.  We’re right under 300 users in Alameda but the magic number for surveys to be valid is around 400 users for a population like Alameda’s, but more is better since there’s a wide range of suggestions.  Although we haven’t hit the magic number, we do see some trends and have begun to reach out to businesses  We’re very early in the process, but we’ve already started talking with one business that is considering moving here.  They find the suggestions on Spotmojo very interesting and very helpful.  I’ll share more details as soon as I can.  For businesses, the more users and suggestions, the more convincing it is to them.  So if you haven’t already, please suggest what you would like to see in Alameda, ask your neighbors or other people you know in or near Alameda.

Here are links to other vacant spots in Alameda you can use to submit your suggestions:

Bridgeside Shopping Center

Harbor Bay Shopping Center

Alameda Patch is working with Spotmojo to collect your suggestions for vacancies.  Spotmojo is a website where you can suggest the businesses you want where you live, work, or play. The suggestions are provided to new businesses and commercial real estate brokers to help new businesses find their ideal location. This gives you a voice in the businesses that open in your neighborhood and it helps local businesses succeed.
