Nob Hill Workers to Rally Tonight in Alameda

The employee union announced on its website that the rally would take place from 5 to 7 p.m. near the Blanding Avenue store location.

A rally is expected to occur in front of Alameda's Nob Hill supermarket this evening, following Sunday's strike over wages and medical benefits.

The United Food and Commercial Workers Local 5 posted a message on its website announcing that the rally would take place from 5 to 7 p.m. at the corner of Clement and Blanding Avenues. However, a flyer also posted on the website said the rally will occur on Broadway and Blanding. Both corners are nearby the 2531 Blanding Ave. store location.

Alameda Patch was unable to get further details from a union representative.

The rally comes three days after Raley's and Nob Hill workers across Northern California walked off the job Sunday morning.

Thanks Happy. I shop at Trader Joe's where I'm much happier.

Producer, you just go to trader Joe's, where the produce is wilting, meat smelly and most other things with expired pull dates. I am a ditto to Happy Alamedan, I think Nob Hill is the best (next to Encinal Market) in Alameda. EM is a little pricey, but LOVE their meats, fish and produce. I-also shop Safeway, but prefer Nob Hill.

The issue is, that they want to cut eveyone's hours to part time so they don't have to offer employees medical benefits. raleys says they are losing money against Walmart, etc., yet in my weekly mailer they offer to freebie me over $10 of items if I just spend $20. Why not forgo the free stuff to thousands of customers and use that to treat your employees like 21st century workers?
