Poll: Where Do You Shop for the Holidays?

Black Friday, the traditional start of the Christmas shopping season, is almost here. Where will you do most of your shopping?

Merchants are hoping customers will open their wallets wide this year and are luring shoppers with sales and even midnight opening hours on Black Friday.

The National Retail Federation says the holiday season can represent from 25 to 40 percent of annual sales for some retailers. In 2010, holiday sales represented 19.4 percent of total retail industry sales, according to the federation.

Locally, will shoppers spend most of their holiday dollars on (treeless!) Park Street? At South Shore Shopping Center, now that it has its original name back? Elsewhere in Alameda? Or off-Island, at regional shopping malls or discount warehouses?

Take our (non-scientific) poll, and feel free to add your thoughts about holiday shopping in the comments section below.

Try ReDux, the gallery across from the library which used to be the St. Vinnie's thrift shop....it's now a place for items crafted from other things. The ultimate in up-cycling with local artists. And a lovely gallery portion, too. I'm personally partial to the planters!

I'm a local artist and writer. My paintings, which are whimsical, are mostly brightly colored, with geometry and upcycled objects, and are very affordable. To have a look, here's a few of them on one of my Facebook pages: (copy & paste into your browser) https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.220762201325408.46569.136462313088731&type=1 And I also write a monthly Zine called "The Moon Dog Journal", humor/political satire from a dog's point of view, and one can subscribe to that for $20/year. Feel free to email me. diggitydog9@yahoo.com How's that for shameless self promotion!? ^_^ Happy Thanksgiving!

we are not shopping at all; the past few years have hit us too hard financially. fortunately the kids are grown and moved away.

I am also shopping on Webster Street in addition to Park, but not for a week or two, and not in the chain stores. I have never been in a Walmart or eaten at a macdonalds or burger king, preferring places like Marti's and similar places.
