Will You Shop at Walmart on Thanksgiving Day?

The megastore opens at 8 p.m. on Nov. 22 so shoppers can get started early on Black Friday deals. Is it a smart business move or a greedy tactic? And will you go shopping Thanksgiving evening?

Walmart is one of the biggest names when it comes to Black Friday shopping, and the superstore has taken advantage of that fact in recent years by choosing to open up to Black Friday shoppers on Thanksgiving evening. Last year, doors opened at 10 p.m., and this year, the deals start even earlier at 8 p.m.

The move has sparked an online petition against Walmart for tarnishing Thanksgiving and forcing its employees to work on the holiday. More than 32,000 people have signed, with some promising to boycott Walmart for its "corporate greed." Employees are planning to strike at around 1,000 Walmart locations across the country.

But Walmart isn't the only super-chain open on Thanksgiving Day. Kmart, Sears, The Gap, Banana Republic, Old Navy, Michael's and Toys 'R Us will also all be open, as well as some grocery stores.

Are stores that open for Black Friday sales on Thanksgiving simply responding to demand? Or is it a sign of disregard for their employees and the sanctity of traditional American holidays? Share your thoughts in the comments.
