Sick of Entitled Drivers Dissing Pedestrians

Good afternoon Patch readers:

This little screed is directed at the middle-aged  woman with the dirty blonde curly collar-length hair driving the blue/gray wagon or mini-SUV who decided she was in such a hurry shortly before 3 p.m. today that she  just HAD to blow through the crosswalk at Island Drive and Mecartney Road.

Yeah, I'm talking to you lady if you happen to be reading this.

I, a mere pedestrian carrying two shopping bags walking home from the grocery store, had the "audacity" of checking traffic carefully before proceeding into the crosswalk and then expecting when I was midway across the street that you could cool your wheels for a few seconds to allow me to cross Island Drive.

But you decided you had to drive at a fast clip right up to (and through) the crosswalk before I (also a middle aged woman) finished getting across the street.

When I jumped and turned, looking back over my shoulder to find your car right upon me in the crosswalk and gave you a much deserved scowl of disapproval you then sarcastically shouted in a sing song voice, "Merry Christmas, have a happy holiday!"  Then you laughed hilariously and sped away down Island Drive heading towards Fir.

What I wish for you lady, this coming year, is that luck will be on your side and you won't hit any pedestrians.  I hope your arrogance will not lead you to make a wrong driving calculation that causes you to lose your life or the life of someone else.

If anybody is reading this is also sick and tired of the poor driving habits of drivers on this island by all means, "recommend" this post.

If APD or the city is reading this - how about finally putting in a signal light at Island and Mecartney?

Slow down people. I know you haven't finished your Christmas shopping yet or you have a party to get to or you just feel like being a royal jerk and think your rights come before everyone else but driving is a privilege and your car is a lethal weapon.

May you stay safe this season and may the rest of us who dare cross the street in a designated crosswalk in this town live to see the New Year.
