Bay Farm Island's Egret Colony Going Strong

Robert Perricone shares his photos of great egrets and snowy egrets nesting on Bay Farm Island

"This is an 'Eye on the Bay' experience. Do not miss," says Alameda native Robert Perricone, who leads walks for the Alameda Recreation and Park Department. "There are about 30+ egrets in one tree — like Christmas ornaments."

The egrets, who are raising their young in about 25 nests, should be around until mid-July, he says.

For photographers, he says, "It is nice in the evening about a couple of hours before sunset, when the sun is not causing glare on your photos."
