Get Out! Alameda Weekend Planner

Start Valentine's Day early with a great music selection, some food for thought and these great events on the Island.

The weekend is nearly here! Check out some cool Alameda events. We're lucky to be home to great local artists, as well as host to internationally acclaimed performers. Something we missed? Please feel free to add you suggestions for what to do this weekend in the comments. 


  • Where/When:
    , Friday, 7-9 p.m.
    Why Go:
    Estuary Art Attack may be taking a break, but that does not mean that art in Alameda has checked out. Alameda artist Malia Bush will showing her latest works done in acrylic paint on Friday night. Get a taste of her style on her website and ask her about her inspiration at the reception.

  • Where/When:
    , Saturday, 8 p.m.
    Why Go: Pretend you're in Montmarte District of Paris to the sounds of French musette accordion. That is, until Tara Linda and Jetty Swart switch it up with some Michael Jackson.
    Pricing: $15 in advance, $18 at the door.

    Why Go: If you enjoy online community media (hey, you're reading some right now!) and like the idea of the internet staying an even playing field, this will be an informative and thought-provoking discussion by experts in the field.

    , Saturday, 2-4 p.m.
    Why Go: In honor of Black History Month, The Academy is holding a screening of this 1991 documentary on African Americans and the civil war. The film will be followed by a discussion and a poetry reading.

    Why Go: Ramana Viera is a California-born performer who has been singing in the traditional Portuguese fado style all over the world. She brings a sultry touch to this powerful singing style.
