Get Out! Alameda Weekend Planner

Jazz, yoga, wine, a Giant, a house tour. What more could you want?

This weekend, drink wine to benefit the Alameda Education Foundation, take a tour of the historic Meyers House Museum, check out great jazz at a new venue in Oakland's Jingletown (just across the Park Street bridge), take your yoga practice further, and if you're a fan of the San Francisco Giants and Tim Lincecum, you'll want to stop by Books Inc. for a very special event.


  • Where/When:
    , 2301 Central Ave., Alameda. Friday, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
    Why Go: For a donation to AEF you can enjoy two wine tastings and some local music. Menu items will be available for purchase.
    Pricing: $10


  • Where/When:
    Meyers House, 2021 Alameda Ave., Alameda. Saturday, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
    Why Go: This late 1800s treasure is a beautiful Colonial Revial style home and the only house museum in Alameda. Docents of the Alameda Museum will lead the tour of the Mediterranean-style studio and architectural exhibit and explain the history of this historic building.
    Pricing: $5

    Bird's Nest Jazz Loft, 2875 Glascock St., #109, Oakland. Saturday, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
    Why Go: Cathi Walkup holds concerts in the Bird's Nest Jazz Loft, just across the Park St. bridge, the last Sunday of each month. Check out her gorgeous voice in this .
    Price: $26 suggested donation


  • Where/When:
    , 911 Central Ave., Alameda. Sunday, noon to 6 p.m.
    Why Go: This donation-based day of walking and sitting meditation is a great way to start a meditation practice or deepen your yoga practice.
    Pricing: Free, but donations welcome.

    Why Go: If you're a Giants fan, you won't want to miss this event. Photographer Deanne Fitzmaurice and writer Joan Ryan, both award winners, will talk about their experience documenting the San Francisco Giants' Tim Lincecum's huge winning season.
