It was my father who took me to the mall when I was 13 to get my ears pierced. I must have lobbied, though I don't remember now. I do remember him standing awkwardly nearby, hands in pockets, as the nice young woman from the jewelery store, pierced one ear — ouch! — then the other.
My own daughter asked for hers to be pierced when she was in second grade. Many of the other girls in her class were already wearing earrings. We said yes, because we couldn't think of a really good reason to say no.
At what age will you/did you let your child get her ears pierced?
Will you let your son pierce an ear? Two?
What about tattoos? So many adults have them now. I know many people with tattoo-related regrets as well as joys.
And, if you have lots of piercings and tattoos, do you think that makes saying no harder?
