Smog Alerts Issued for Monday and Tuesday

The Sept. 19 and 20 "Spare the Air" days are the fifth and sixth of 2011.

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District has issued a Spare the Air Health Alert in 2011 as hot temperatures and light winds are expected to combine for poor air quality on Monday, Sept. 19 and Tuesday, Sept. 20.

There is no free transit and there is no wood burning ban in place, but the Air District is encouraging residents to take the following measures to help prevent smog:

  • carpool or vanpool with friends or co-workers;
  • take public transportation;
  • telecommute;
  • link necessary trips and postpone errands if possible.
