Spare the Air Day Wednesday

Tenth such warning this year ... highs in Alameda in the upper 80s.

With temperatures expected to be in the 80s and 90s in the Bay Area again Wednesday, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District is once again asking residents to "Spare the Air."

The alert for Wednesday is the tenth warning issued this year. Alameda's temperatures are expected to be in the high 80s

The air district monitors daily air-pollution levels and produces air-quality forecasts every day based on an index developed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

When the index indicates unhealthy concentrations of  smog the air district issues a Spare the Air alert.

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District is a charged with safeguarding air quality in the nine-county Bay Area.
