64th Annual Convention of California Co-Op Preschools
Co-Op Nursery Schools: Be part of a community where everyone works together to make sure every child thrives!
The 64th annual convention of the California Council of Parent Participation Nursery Schools, hosted by the East Bay Council, takes place March 22–23 and brings together an exciting collection of experts to explore a wide range of ideas and skills for educators and parents of preschool-aged children.

There are more than 35 workshops taking place during the convention, including:
• Empowering Our Girls
• Teaching Through Storytelling
• Nature: Your Child's Other First Teacher
• Living History in the Classroom
• Puddle Jumpers: Rainy Day Fun
• Temperaments in the Hundred-Acre Wood
In addition to these workshops and presentations, the convention also features:
• Keynote speakers: David Berg on "Making Math Real" and Dr. Kathy Masarie on "How to Raise Responsible, Caring Citizens"
• A progressive dinner allowing attendees to visit three Bay Area co-operative preschools
• An exhibit hall at the convention center filled with tools and toys for preschool educators
• A silent auction featuring a variety of wonderful baskets and specialty items, donated by our supporters and member schools
• On-site childcare available throughout the convention provided by the teachers of El Cerrito's Peter Pan Nursery School
The theme of the convention is "Nurturing the Six Dimensions," based on a philosophy that encourages communities to pay attention to all areas children's and parents' well-being:
• Physical and Mental Health
• Quality Early Education and Development
• Social-Emotional Development
• Spiritual Foundation and Strength
• Safe and Nurturing Environment
• Economic Stability
The convention is open to parents and teachers of preschool-aged children. You do not have to be involved in a cooperative preschool to come to this convention and learn about promoting children's well-being.
Any profit from this conference goes directly to the Tommy Bianchi Scholarship, which helps provide a preschool experience to children who might not otherwise be able to afford one.

My Dad was at the Naval Air Station (NAS) Alameda from 1940 to 1970. I was born in Alameda…Read More Hospital in 1956 so I have seen Webster in its many stages over the years. For many years it had businesses catering to sailors. Many bars etc... I think Cafe Jolie and Wes Cafe both do a lot for Webster and I hope more businesses like theirs start to populate the street.

But thinking about it, it occurs to…Read More me that were I a younger, more entrepreneurial-oriented type, and wanted to start a local retail type of business, a franchise of some sort would be a relatively low-risk mode of entry, as opposed to starting all over from scratch myself. I was surprised, for example, to find that the calendar and tzotchke store in the mall that was open for about two months last year was a franchise. I believe SubPar Golf is a franchise. That's kinda the way "starting a business" works these days. Not that something isn't lost, but that's always the case.
I would also point out, at the risk of being contentious, the several new establishments that have *opened* on Park St. in the past few years, restaurants like Angela's, the kids-supplies stores, as well as the local chains (dunno how you feel about those) like Red Onion and Burgermeister. And that's just off the top of my head.

Found!!! He followed me into my downstairs neighbor's house. I went to borrow some eggs. My neighbor…Read More was at work. I didn't know he followed me in, didn't see or hear him, got the eggs and left. I called that brat for over three hours. He raided my neighbor's garbage can and a bachelor nap on his sofa! Yay. I'm glad he's home and safe. Thank you everyone.

I absolutely wish we had some beach frontage in Alameda for the dogs to enjoy the water, but no way…Read More would I take them onto the beach when it's not allowed. The signage is perfectly clear and the fine is probably several hundred dollars.Instead we head up to Point Isabel or Albany Bulb. I've counted 25 dogs in the water on a really nice day at Point Isabel. We're going to Disneyland!

The park police got here in time and paid her a visit, and she was none to happy about that...made my day. Unfortunately, a family with 2 little kiddos set up their blanket right in front of the Rottie's toilet spot shortly after she walked away, and I'm sure the kids were all over it. The no-dogs allowed ruling was probably inspired, at least in part, by irresponsible pet owners like her.
