Alamedans can support the LWVA’s nonpartisan voter education and voter service programs by purchasing wine for $5.00 a glass at this Friday evening fundraiser sponsored by Angela’s Bistro at 2301 Central Avenue (at Oak Street) in Alameda. No reservations are needed—just drop by and have fun.

The LWVA devotes about $2,000 of its budget each year and hundreds of volunteer hours to voter education and voter service efforts in Alameda. These events and activities include registering voters and distributing hundreds of Easy Voter Guides written in several languages throughout Alameda, as well as sponsoring four Thursday evening election forums (October 4, 11, 18, and 25) at Mastick Senior Center from 7:00 – 8:30 pm.

“Voter Education is the heart of the League’s support for democracy—democracy with a small ‘d,’” said LWVA President Kate Quick. “And voter education costs money: we register voters, print and distribute Easy Voter guides, advertise and rent space for our candidate forums and pros and cons presentations, and more. Your donation to the League at Angela’s Friday Night Flights supports grassroots democracy here in Alameda.”

The League’s final election forum is on Thursday, October 25 for hospital board and Assembly District 18 candidates.

All of the proceeds from the LWVA's Friday Night Flights will extend voter education efforts like these, thanks to generous donations from local vintners and the support of Angela’s Bistro and Bar. The LWVA is having a Mojito Monday—also at Angela’s—on November 5 from 5:30 - 7:30 pm.

Angela’s, featuring Chef Saboor Zafari, has drawn a large following since opening in 2002. The restaurant has its own organic garden located at the Rock Wall Winery in Alameda. The restaurant’s flavorful seasonal menu supports local farmers and community projects.
