Balloon Ride Over Park Street 1888

Join Eric J. Kos and Dennis Evanosky for a hot air balloon ride over 1888 Park Street.

Eric and Dennis will fly over Park Street and share the history of 19th century Alameda as seen from the above. Stops along the way include the dock on San Francisco Bay at the southern end of Park Street, the nearby electric company that lit up Alameda with its eighty foot high masts, and the South Pacific Coast Railroad’s grand hotel at Encinal Avenue.

Fly over the heart of the business district where busy shoppers bought wares at shops in the Boehmer Block, the Schroeder Building as well as the two Tucker buildings at Santa Clara Ave. Enjoy a look at the Park Opera House and the Fossing Building. Glance down at the Southern Pacific train station and have a look at Harrison Avenue, which the estuary would swallow fourteen years after our 1888 voyage in the sky.
