Meet Your Public Officials with the League of Women Voters of Alameda

The League of Women Voters Presents ‘Meet Your Public Officials’ Mixer Thursday, May 3, 5:30 – 7:30 pm, at the Alameda Elks Lodge.

Would you like to meet, greet and socialize with your elected and appointed officials? Or win an evening of fine dining, a week’s stay in Maui, skybox tickets to an Oakland A’s baseball game or a gourmet cake-making session — complete with ice cream — at Tucker’s Super-Creamed Ice Cream?

Please join the League of Women Voters of Alameda (LWVA) for their annual “Meet Your Public Officials” reception and fundraiser, 5:30–7:30 pm on Thursday, May 3, at the Alameda Elks Lodge. Tickets, which are tax-deductible, cost $10/person. Light appetizers and a no-host bar will be available. All are welcome.

At Meet Your Public Officials, Alamedans can mingle in a relaxed social setting with their elected and appointed public officials and speak informally with those who represent them. All of the City of Alameda’s elected officials and all appointed members of its boards and commissions have been invited to attend. For over 30 years the LWVA has sponsored these informal mixers so members of the public can interact socially with and get to know local decision makers and influencers.

"MYPO is the League’s way of recognizing the time and commitment public officials make to the residents of Alameda," said event coordinator Alice Fried.

Meet Your Public Officials will be in the newly renovated and wheelchair-accessible Alameda Elks Lodge’s Rathskellar in the lower level at 2255 Santa Clara Avenue (next to City Hall). The parking lot and the elevator entrance are in the rear of the lodge.

Socializing will begin at 5:30 pm, followed by the auction and raffle. Attendees will be able to bid on many unique auction items, including:

-A one-week stay in Maui at a vacation time-share.

-A gourmet ice cream cake-making class for two adults with pastry chef Henry Awayan — followed by ice cream cake and coffee for eight guests — provided by Tucker’s Super-Creamed Ice Cream.

-Two skybox tickets to a 2012 Oakland A’s baseball game, courtesy of Alameda County Supervisor Wilma Chan.

-A five-course gourmet al fresco dinner for six, donated by Ted Frey of the LWVA.

-Jeff’s Ultimate Dining Experience, a progressive dinner featuring four of Alameda’s best restaurants, in the company of a special celebrity guest; donated by Jeff Cambra, President of the LWVA.

Proceeds from the auction and ticket sales support the LWVA’s community education and voter service programs throughout the year. These include providing nonpartisan information and resources, candidate forums, Pros and Cons panels on ballot measures, and public issue forums. Tickets are $10 each, and may be purchased from LWVA members in advance or at the event. These tax-deductible tickets may also be purchased by mail: send a check to the LWVA at PO Box 1645, Alameda CA 94501.
