Spirit in Action, a nonprofit that has funded over 500 new businesses and given 35 grants to communities in Africa since 1996, will celebrate its 16thanniversary on May 5. Community members are invited to attend this free event.
Spirit in Action is dedicated to empowering communities in Africa by providing small grants to help them take the first steps out of poverty. Del Anderson (1906-2008) of Alameda founded Spirit in Action when he was 90 years old.
During the Tanya Cothran, Spirit in Action’s executive administrator, will give a presentation about her trip to Malawi last summer to meet the people whose lives have been changed through support from Spirit in Action.

The silent auction, including several handmade craft items from Africa, will benefit villagers in the rural town of Manyamula, Malawi.
