A group of Alameda moms are hosting a multifamily yard sale this Saturday.
All proceeds will be donated for earthquake relief, though the Japanese Consulate General and Japanese Red Cross.
In addition to yard sale items, there will be baked goods and home- cooked Japanese food, too!
Media here mostly is focused on the ongoing nuclear disaster in Japan now. But the death and missing people exceeds 20,000 now, and there are also at least 200,000 earthquake and tsunami refugees living in temporary situation (schools, stadium etc.) with only limited supply of food and heat.
Many have only one meal a day (and no guarantee it will continue next week), and heat is shut down during the day (where the temperature is in the 30s) to preserve fuel.
Sending goods is helpful too but most support organization need funding, as they are short of transportation (helicopter, trucks etc.) and fuel to deliver goods.
Please stop by this Saturday to support the cause, while getting a good deal and yummy food!
