Crab Cove Park Expansion Plan Submitted to City of Alameda

In response to the city’s environmental review of a proposed housing project on federal property across the street from Crab Cove, the East Bay Regional Park District has asked the city to consider its alternative plan for the site.

With a new entry plaza and an additional parking lot (33 spaces) that includes a bus turn around, about half of the federal site “would be converted to open space and include a drought tolerant meadow area, and new trail and group picnic sites.”  The rest would be reused for remodeled staff offices and a relocated park service maintenance yard.

Noting that the city has other land available for residential uses, the park district asserts that the alternative “would not prevent the City from achieving its Housing Element goals.” In addition, they state it is “consistent with the vision to expand Crown Beach presented in the voter-approved Measure WW.”
