Tell That to Gray Davis

Compare & contrast: WI vs. CA

A consensus seems to be emerging that one reason the Walker recall failed was that many, or most Wisconsinites didn't think Walker's infractions, whatever they may have been, didn't justify recall.

Although I was disappointed myself, part of me wants to say, "Good for them." I think that's a constructive principle. Would that we Californians had been so wise back in ought-three when we threw out a governor basically because he was too boring and we wanted a shot at Governor Schwarzenegger. That worked out so well...

If I remember correctly (and there's a solid chance I'm not) what sank Davis was the disclosure very soon after his re-election that he'd lied massively about the deficit for that year's budget.

The Onion had some good commentary on the Davis recall... http://www.theonion.com/articles/the-davis-recall,7834/ Even better, though I can't find it, was an Onion poll asking readers about the candidates, one of whom being "Dave Gravis," which was a picture of Davis with a very obvious fake mustache.
